My name is Jonathan Bardzik. I love to cook. When asked what’s my favorite thing to cook, I truthfully answer, “It’s what I haven’t cooked yet.” Join me as I learn about my new favorite foods. Many of the recipes I post are developed for my weekly Saturday morning demonstrations at Washington, DC’s historic Eastern Market. I’m there on Saturdays from 10 – 1 pm cooking with fresh ingredients available right at the market, offering free samples of my food and handing out recipe cards.

I love cooking, I love the amazing, fresh food at eastern market and I love talking to people. Giving these demos has been a dream come true. My new dream is to spend my life doing this. Follow me as I explore in-home teaching and parties, corporate events and anywhere else people want to learn how to prepare healthy, fresh, really, really good-tasting food at home.

  1. Greetings, Sat i had some of your cantaloupe and arugula salad that was delicious. I want to make it. Where can I find the recipe.

  2. Jonathan,
I have not been to Eastern Market since the summer, but was wondering if and when you will be doing demonstrations.

  3. Hi Jonathan! Thank-you for the great entertainment last night!! What a treat it was having you cook that absolutely delicious vegetarian gluten-free dinner for us in the comfort of our own kitchen! It was a blast listening to all your cooking stories and learning tricks of the trade. Hope some of it rubbed off on my husband…not likely! Joe enjoyed himself, too. Thanks again… until the next time……….

  4. Hi Jonathan!

Don’t know if you remember me – we were at Colby together. I just found your blog and love it! I’m so glad you’ve found a way to follow your passion. As a veg-head, I can’t always make your recipes, but I soooooo love the idea that you’re cooking w/ seasonal and local ingredients. Next time I’m in the DC area, it would be great to meet up…

  5. Jonathan – I thoroughly enjoyed your demonstration today at the Georgetown University Farmer’s Market (the explanation on shallots was particularly entertaining) and thought I would check out your blog. A fellow “kindred spirit” in the kitchen, I too love cooking (Inventing? Concocting?) and attempt to do so despite my university setting/kitchen. I hope you’ll take a small peek at my blog and look forward to seeing you again at Eastern Market sometime. Cheers !

  6. Hello Jonathan! First let me give you my congratulations for your blog; i realy am finding some great inspiration on it!… THANK YOU!… One thing that is on my mind, on this last two months is how to cook insects… (how, which and what do i will have with result)… Can you give me some lights?..

  7. Hey Jonathan! We had a lot of fun watching you cook this morning at Eastern Market! Can’t wait to cook watermelon gazpacho on my own! Also, just checked out other recipes on your website – all of which sound great! We will try making zucchini pancakes next weekend. Will report back on how they turn out! Thank you again for an enjoyable morning at the market!!

  8. Hi Jonathan! My friend and I watched your demo this past Saturday and some of the pointers we walked away with were life-changers! We had to bolt before I was able to taste any of it, but I would love to get your recipe for the carrot and beet soup that you made. I’ve been trying to figure out how to eat those dang beets. thanks and great demo!

    • Thanks for catching that Liz! It depends on how thick and chunky you want your soup. I usually use 2-3 medium yukon gold potatoes. I like the flavor of Yukons and they are a little less starchy. Enjoy the soup! It’s one of my favorites!

  9. I’m having a serious craving for your celery root, bacon & apple soup that I tasted and loved in November. I’m thinking of trying the recipe very soon!

  10. Just found your blog – very nice stuff! You met my hubby this past week in Baltimore at the ANLA.he told me your appetizers were excellent! I am always collecting great recipes, so I will be visiting your site often. I like your attitude toward cooking ‘what you haven’t cooked yet!’ I’m the same way!

  11. I tasted your pumpkin quesadillas this past Saturday and thought I’d died and gone to heaven! I just searched this site and can’t find that recipe anywhere. Will it be posted soon?
